What is terracing?

Terracing refers to the process of creating flat areas on a slope. This agricultural technique is essential for managing water runoff and reducing soil erosion on hilly terrain. While planting on the sides of hills does occur in agriculture, it does not specifically describe the terracing method, which focuses on the creation of level surfaces. The alternatives of building raised beds or using irrigation systems pertain to different agricultural practices that may be employed in conjunction with terracing but do not define it. Terracing uniquely combines these ideas with its emphasis on optimizing slope for cultivation.
